Puri: A three-day Fit India Carnival was inaugurated on Saturday at Puri sea beach, drawing participation from athletes, officials, and fitness enthusiasts. The event will continue till March 23 at the Golden Beach.
The initiative encourages citizens to dedicate at least 30 minutes daily to yoga and fitness activities. Organised under the nationwide Fit India Movement, the carnival aims to promote fitness, cultural integration, and community bonding.
Union Government’s initiative to host the event in Puri was appreciated by local MP Sambit Patra, who expressed gratitude and highlighted that such programmes contribute towards achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who attended the inauguration, urged people to adopt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message on fitness and make it a part of their daily lifestyle.
The carnival features a mix of traditional and indigenous games along with beach-based sports activities such as beach cricket, volleyball, and wrestling, which will continue over the three days.
The event is being organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Regional Centre Kolkata, in collaboration with the Odisha Sports Department and the district administration.
Notably, Puri MP Sambit Patra, Arjuna Awardee K. Ravi Kumar, and Olympian athlete Anuradha Biswal were present at the event.
