Baripada (Mayurbhanj): In a shocking incident, a tuition teacher was arrested for allegedly murdering a minor girl over one-sided love in Mayurbhanj district, police said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Trilochan Mahakud, had earlier been tutoring the victim. The crime came to light after the body of the schoolgirl, who had been missing since Friday (March 20), was recovered from a sack near her house at Ward No. 15 in the Bansahi area under Karanjia police limits on Saturday morning.
Acting on information, the IIC of Karanjia police station along with a police team rushed to the spot. A scientific team also reached the scene to assist in the investigation, while the victim’s family members were present during the recovery of the body.
Suspicion fell on the girl’s former tuition teacher, following which police detained and questioned him. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to committing the crime, citing one-sided love as the motive.
According to Karanjia SDPO Nabakrushna Nayak, a crime scene recreation will be carried out on Monday (March 23), and further legal procedures will follow. The accused had been teaching the girl in 2022, but the tuition was discontinued after a dispute between his family and the victim’s family.
