Bhubaneswar: An Additional Tehsildar and his driver were allegedly attacked by members of the sand mafia in Balasore district late Monday night after intercepting an illegally sand-laden truck.
The incident occurred on Ainri Chhak Road in Soro while the officer was returning from Tentei. The Additional Tehsildar had stopped a sand-laden truck to check its documents.
According to reports, the truck driver and his associates allegedly resisted the verification process and physically assaulted the officer before fleeing the scene.
The vehicle and its keys were reportedly left behind, but the accused later returned, snatched the keys, blocked the road, and created tension among local residents. During the confrontation, both the Additional Tehsildar and his driver were attacked.
Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Anantapur police outpost against three individuals. Police reached the spot, seized the truck, and registered a case based on the complaint. Two persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the case, while investigations are ongoing.
