Ram Navami Celebrated Across Odisha Amid Tight Security Cover

Bhubaneswar: Devotees thronged temples across Odisha on Friday to celebrate Ram Navami, with major religious centres witnessing large gatherings under heightened security arrangements.

At the Jagannath Temple in Puri, one of the state’s key pilgrimage sites, a steady stream of devotees was seen offering prayers since early morning.

Security measures were intensified across the state, particularly in districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Sambalpur, which authorities have identified as sensitive based on past incidents. Surveillance systems were strengthened with the deployment of drones and CCTV cameras to monitor processions and gatherings.

Quick response teams were stationed in vulnerable pockets to ensure swift action in case of any untoward situation, officials said.

In Cuttack, which had witnessed clashes during last year’s Dussehra celebrations, elaborate arrangements were put in place. More than 30 platoons of police forces, along with personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were deployed across the city.

Over 300 CCTV cameras were installed at key locations, including major thoroughfares, marketplaces and congregation points, to maintain close vigil.

Security personnel also conducted flag marches in sensitive areas such as Dargha Bazar, Choudhury Bazaar, Dolamundai and Buxi Bazaar to instill confidence among residents and deter potential disturbances.

Inspector General of Police (Central Range) Satyajit Naik said comprehensive arrangements has been made to ensure smooth conduct of the festival.

“We have ensured robust law and order mechanisms, efficient traffic management, and effective crowd control measures. Officers are vigilant and taking proactive steps to prevent any untoward incidents,” he said.

Deputy Inspector General (Eastern Range) Pinak Mishra said Bhadrak and Balasore were under special focus. He added that over 40 platoons, along with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), had been deployed in Bhadrak, with regular flag marches and close monitoring of social media platforms.

Meanwhile, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik extended greetings to the people on the occasion.

The Governor urged people to follow the ideals of truth, righteousness and compassion exemplified by Lord Ram and wished for peace and harmony across the state.
