Bhubaneswar: In a heart-warming display of honesty and humanity, an autorickshaw driver in Bhubaneswar returned gold jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh to its rightful owner after she accidentally left it behind in his vehicle.
Suchismita Dey, a resident of Balasore who had come to Bhubaneswar for her wedding shopping, left behind the valuable gold jewellery and other materials in haste while alighting from the auto at Patia Square.
The driver, Santosh Sahoo, later discovered the jewellery box in his vehicle.Despite initial difficulty in tracing the owner, Santosh found a purchase bill inside the box that contained Suchismita’s mobile number. He immediately contacted her and asked her to come to Maitri Vihar Police Station.
In the presence of police officials, Santosh handed over the gold jewellery and other valuables to the emotional owner. Maitri Vihar Police Inspector-in-Charge Rabi Narayan Behera appreciated the driver’s noble act and felicitated him with a flower bouquet and shawl.
Suchismita expressed her deep gratitude, saying, “I am very happy that such good human beings still exist in a big city.He truly understood a passenger’s pain. I can’t thank him enough.”
Santosh Sahoo said humbly, “I always believe in earning through the right path. I cannot become rich or great by stealing someone else’s valuables.”
