Bhubaneswar: Police have registered a case against Durga Prasad Mohanty, husband of Narla MLA Manorama Mohanty and Chairman of Narla Block in Kalahandi district, for allegedly threatening to murder local Tehsildar Bibhu Prasad Singh and using abusive language.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 15 during an official phone call. The Tehsildar filed a written complaint following which a case was registered at Narla Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 296, 221, 224, 351(2), and 351(3).
On Sunday, a team of Kalahandi police visited the government residence of Narla MLA Manorama Mohanty in Bhubaneswar in connection with the case. The visit triggered protests by some BJD leaders, who alleged that police had arrived to raid the MLA’s quarters without prior notice.
However, Kalahandi Superintendent of Police clarified that the police team had gone only to serve a notice and was accompanied by local police. “Police did not go for any arrest or raid,” the SP stated.
Investigation into the complaint is underway. Police didn’t find the MLA and her husband.
