Sambalpur: A PG student of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Sambalpur district allegedly attempted suicide and is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU.
The student, a first-year PG scholar in the Department of Pediatrics, allegedly consumed sleeping pills due to mental stress caused by excessive workload and alleged mental harassment by the department head.
According to sources, the student was under pressure due to emergency duties and other responsibilities, which led to mental distress. There are also allegations of mental torture by the department head, which may have contributed to the student’s decision.
VIMSAR’s Superintendent and Director, Dr Lal Mohan Nayak stated that the student will be interrogated once her condition improves and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
It is learnt that the student’s spouse is a doctor pursuing PG in Neuro Surgery at SCB Medical College in Cuttack.
