Subarnapur: In a major anti-drug operation, the Subarnapur Police seized 1,091 kg of ganja and 240 bottles of codeine cough syrup, with a total estimated market value of over Rs 11 crore. Nine people have been arrested in connection with the seizures, officials said on Monday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajesh Sethy (23), Venkatesh Mahakud (26), and Jitendra Sethi (24), all residents under Biramaharajpur police station; Laxman Jadav (29) and Laxman Jadav (59) from Baxar district, Bihar; and Abhimanyu Badhei, Narendra Das (30), Hemanta Bastia (31), and Dhirendra Behera (22).
The operation forms part of the police department’s ongoing “Drug-Free Odisha” mission, aimed at curbing the circulation of illegal narcotics and ensuring public safety. The Subarnapur Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug peddlers and preventing such activities for a safer society.
In addition to the arrests, the police seized 21 vehicles across three police stations in Subarnapur district, including Biramaharajpur, Sonepur, and Binka. The operation was carried out after extensive intelligence and surveillance, police said.
The Subarnapur Police have emphasised their continued efforts to prevent illegal drug activities and promote a drug-free community.
