Bhubaneswar: A one-month-old infant was rescued from a parked auto-rickshaw in the Patia area under Chandrasekharpur police limits on Tuesday morning, after locals alerted police on hearing the baby’s cries.
According to reports, residents of a nearby apartment noticed the sound of an infant crying from an unattended auto-rickshaw parked in the locality. Suspecting that something was amiss, they informed the police.
A team from Chandrasekharpur police station rushed to the spot and found the baby inside the vehicle. The infant, a boy estimated to be between one and one-and-a-half months old, was immediately rescued.
Police later handed over the child to Childline for care and protection. Officials said the baby appeared to be stable.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to ascertain how the infant was left in the auto-rickshaw and to trace the parents or guardians, police added.
