Bhubaneswar: The proposed metro rail project in Bhubaneswar has been placed under review, Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra informed the Odisha Assembly.
The decision comes after ridership projections fell short of expectations, prompting a reassessment of the project’s technical aspects.
An Inter-Ministerial Committee has been formed to conduct a thorough evaluation, and the government is also implementing the “Sustainable Urban Mobility Transition Plan for Odisha” to develop a comprehensive urban transport system. The plan will help determine the role of metro rail in Odisha’s mobility framework.
A final decision on the project will be taken after the committee’s recommendations and mobility plan findings are reviewed.
