Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida today informed that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the newly announced Kanya Sumangal Yojana will be finalised and released soon.
She stated that money will be deposited in the name of the girl child within one year of her birth under the new scheme.
The Kanya Sumangal Yojana was announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during the recent state budget speech with a dedicated budgetary allocation. The scheme is primarily education-based and aims to promote girl child education while helping prevent child marriage, especially among families from economically weaker sections.
According to Deputy Chief Minister Parvati Parida, an initial deposit will be made in the girl child’s name shortly after birth. Once the girl turns 21 or successfully completes her higher education, a substantial amount running into lakhs of rupees will be transferred to her account. This financial assistance is intended to ensure continuity in higher studies and reduce the economic burden on poor families.
“The SOP of the Kanya Sumangal Yojana will come soon. The picture will become clear after the full SOP of all this comes,” said the Deputy Chief Minister while briefing about the initiative.
Further details regarding eligibility criteria, exact amount of deposit, application process and disbursement timeline will be made available once the official SOP is notified by the Women and Child Development Department.
