Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions tightened their grip across Odisha on Thursday, with several districts recording temperatures close to or above the 40°C mark, according to the evening bulletin issued by the IMD’s Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre at 7:00 PM.

Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state, recording a scorching 40.6°C, followed closely by Titilagarh 40°C ,Talcher at 39.5°C, Angul at 39.1°C, and Bolangir and Bhadrak both hovering around 39°C. The state capital Bhubaneswar also experienced intense heat, registering 36.8°C.

Western and interior districts continued to bear the brunt of the rising temperatures. Sambalpur recorded 38.6°C, Sundargarh 38.2°C, and Hirakud touched 39.2°C, reflecting a widespread heatwave pattern across the region. Coastal areas, though relatively less intense, still reported high temperatures, with Balasore at 37.5°C and Chandbali at 38.0°C.

Humidity levels remained moderately high in several parts of the state, exacerbating discomfort. Morning relative humidity levels ranged between 55% and 93%, while evening levels varied between 31% and 88%, contributing to sultry conditions.

Despite the soaring temperatures, most parts of Odisha reported no significant rainfall in the last 24 hours. However, Baripada recorded 7.4 mm of rainfall, while Daringbadi and Keonjhar received light precipitation. Jharsuguda reported only a trace amount of rainfall.

Night temperatures also remained elevated across districts, with several places recording minimum temperatures above 22°C, indicating little respite from the daytime heat.

The IMD has indicated that such conditions are likely to persist, with interior districts particularly vulnerable to further rise in temperatures in the coming days.
