Bhubaneswar: A man was critically injured in a crocodile attack in Jajpur district on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Pratap Mallick, had gone to the Kharasrota river early in the morning for defecation when the incident occurred. As he entered the river, a crocodile suddenly grabbed him. In a desperate bid to save his life, Mallick picked up a stone lying nearby and hit the crocodile on its mouth, forcing the reptile to release its grip. He somehow managed to escape from the river with serious injuries. Mallick was immediately rushed to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
This is the second crocodile attack reported in the district in just two days. On Wednesday, another person was attacked by a crocodile in the Patia river, a tributary of the Kharasrota river, at Kujibara under Rasulpur block.
