Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Friday reported a sharp rise in temperatures across Odisha, with several districts experiencing intense heat during the day.

According to the evening weather bulletin issued at 7:00 PM, western and northern parts of the state bore the brunt of the heatwave-like conditions. Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place at 41.6°C, followed closely by Sambalpur (40.0°C), Sundargarh (39.5°C), and Rourkela (39.5°C).

In coastal regions, Chandbali recorded 39.3°C, while Balasore and Bhadrak reported temperatures above 38°C, indicating rising discomfort even in typically moderate zones. The state capital Bhubaneswar registered 38.7°C, remaining significantly above normal levels.

Among other districts, Angul (40.7°C), Bargarh (38.0°C), and Titlagarh (40.5°C) also witnessed soaring temperatures. Meanwhile, relatively lower maximum temperatures were recorded in Koraput (33.8°C) and Rayagada (33.6°C), offering slight relief in southern parts.

Humidity levels remained moderately high, particularly in coastal and southern districts, contributing to increased discomfort. Rainfall activity was largely negligible across the state, with only isolated traces reported in a few areas.

The IMD has indicated that such high temperatures may persist over the coming days, urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, especially during peak afternoon hours.
