Bhubaneswar: In a crackdown on narcotics trafficking, a flying squad of the Excise Intelligence (EI) and Excise Bureau (EB), Unit-I, Cuttack, detected two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and arrested two persons with heroin in Cuttack on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Sritam Das (24) of Nima Sahi under Purighat police limits and Mir Latipur Rehman alias Javed (26) of Kesarpur under Mangalabag police limits.
According to officials, the excise team seized 118 grams of heroin from Sritam Das and 148 grams from Mir Latipur Rehman in two separate operations. Two mobile phones were also recovered from their possession.
The raids were conducted at two locations under Cantonment police limits — near Buxibazar Fire Station and at the middle of the Baliyatra Ground.
Both accused have been arrested and forwarded to judicial custody.
The total estimated value of the seized contraband, including mobile phones, is around Rs 26.9 lakh, officials said.
The raids were carried out by a team led by Inspector of Excise Hira Dalapati, along with SI Sk Sakir Ulla, ASIs AR Mallik and Karna Oram, and other excise personnel.
Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and network involved in the illegal drug trade.
