Elderly Woman Killed After Tipsy Son Forces Her To Consume Pesticide In Balasore

Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly forced his elderly widowed mother to drink pesticide, resulting in her death. The shocking incident took place at Parulia village under Bhograi block in Balasore district.

The accused, identified as Laxmikant Dalai (35) has been arrested.

Dalai, is said to be a habitual alcoholic who frequently quarrelled with his family members and often turned violent towards them.

According to neighbours, Laxmikant regularly abused and neglected his elderly mother, Padmabati Dalai. She was reportedly denied adequate food and clothing, and was beaten on several occasions. Locals claimed that anyone who tried to intervene or help the woman was threatened or attacked by the accused.

On Thursday, after yet another heated argument, Laxmikant allegedly threw his mother out of the house without giving her any food.

The elderly woman returned home later that night and slept on the verandah out of fear. The next morning (Friday), the accused first dropped his wife and two children at his in-laws’ house. Upon returning, he allegedly forced his mother—who was resting on the verandah—to consume pesticide.

When villagers came to know about the incident, they caught hold of Laxmikant, tied him to a tree, and beat him up before the police arrived.

He was later rescued and taken into custody by police from Kamarda police station. A case has been registered against him.
