Bhubaneswar: Leader of the Opposition and BJD president, Naveen Patnaik, on Sunday completed his digital self-enumeration for Census 2027.

Taking to the social media platform X, Patnaik said, “I participated in the ‘Digital Census’ program launched across the country and completed the self-enumeration for Phase I of Census 2027 (Houselisting and Housing Census) today. Accurate data will help in preparing welfare plans for the people in the coming days. Let us cooperate in this campaign and be partners in shaping a bright future for the state. #Census2027”

#Census2027 pic.twitter.com/jOxo5NVRPX

Phase I of Census 2027, which focuses on houselisting and housing, began on April 1, 2026. For the first time in Indian census history, the government has introduced a digital self-enumeration facility, allowing citizens to submit household details online before enumerators visit homes for verification.

The portal (https://se.census.gov.in) is currently open in a phased manner across eight states and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Apart from Odisha, it covers Karnataka, Goa, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Sikkim, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and parts of Delhi. The 15-day self-enumeration window will be followed by a 30-day house-to-house survey in each region.

By completing the self-enumeration, residents contribute directly to accurate data on housing conditions, household amenities, and assets—information crucial for effective planning, inclusive development programs, and evidence-based governance.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and several other dignitaries have already completed their self-enumeration, setting an example for citizens. Over 55,000 households reportedly accessed the portal on its very first day.

The second phase of Census 2027, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027. The exercise aims to provide updated demographic, economic, and social data that will inform policy-making over the next decade.
