Bhubaneswar: The district administration has sealed the Shyam Metallics factory located at Rengali area of Sambalpur district following directives from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
According to reports, the company was accused of causing air and water pollution. It was also alleged that the plant was illegally creating ash mounds and encroaching upon water body land. The Central Pollution Control Board had issued orders on March 30 directing the closure of the plant for non-compliance. However, the company failed to take any corrective measures. On Monday morning, officials from the district administration and the Central Pollution Control Board swung into action. In the presence of security personnel, the main gate of the company was first locked, and the entire plant was subsequently sealed. Only office-related work has been permitted to continue.
Besides, employees engaged in office duties will be allowed entry and exit after showing their identity cards. It is not yet clear for how many days the sealing order will remain in force. Neither the company nor the officials who carried out the sealing operation have issued any clarification so far.
