Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two Class-VII students drowned while bathing in Patanda village pond in the Digapahandi area in Ganjam district on Tuesday.
According to reports, the victims, 13-year-old Manini and her friend Pranjali, had gone to the pond to bathe. Manini slipped into the water and Pranjali tried to rescue her but both ended up drowning
When local people noticed they had sunk, residents immediately launched a rescue operation. With the help of the fire brigade and villagers, both girls were pulled out of the water in critical condition. They were rushed to the Digapahandi Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared both girls dead on arrival.
The news of the two friends’ deaths has cast a pall of gloom over the entire village. The village is plunged into mourning, with cries and wailing echoing as grieving family members and locals mourn the loss.
The exact circumstances leading to the drowning are still under investigation.
