Berhampur: In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in Saranuaapalli village under Belguntha police limits of Ganjam district, triggering widespread shock and grief in the locality.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Chitrasen Nayak, allegedly attacked his wife, Pooja Das, with a ‘paniki’ (vegetable cutter) following a heated altercation. The assault proved fatal, and Pooja died on the spot. In a tragic turn of events, the husband also lost his life by allegedly hanging himself following the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be ascertained.

Police said the couple had married seven years ago in a love marriage. They have two minor sons, aged three and four years. Reports indicate that the relationship had been strained, with frequent quarrels between the two. For the past six months, Pooja had reportedly been living separately with her children in Bhubaneswar, where she was working.

On receiving information, local police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies, and initiated an investigation. Officials said efforts are underway to establish the sequence of events and the exact cause behind the deaths.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with residents expressing shock over the brutal nature of the crime.
