Jagatsinghpur: The District Excise Mobile Unit on Tuesday arrested an alleged drug trafficker during a raid at Markandapur village under Jagatsinghpur Municipal area, officials said.
The accused, identified as Silu Singh (31) of Singharapur village under Jagatsinghpur Police Station limits, had allegedly been operating a brown sugar (heroin) racket for a considerable period.
Acting on specific inputs, a team led by Inspector Prabhas Kumar Choudhury tracked down the suspect, who had reportedly taken shelter inside the Markandeshwar Mahadev Temple premises in an attempt to evade arrest. The excise personnel apprehended him from the spot.
During the search, officials seized 28 grams of illegal heroin from his possession, estimated to be worth around ₹2.8 lakh.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a court. His bail application was rejected, and he was subsequently remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
The raid was carried out by a team comprising ASI Santosh Nayak and constables Sabita Nayak, Biswaranjan Swain, and Sukant Majhi, among others, officials added.
