Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police men’s and women’s football teams delivered an impressive performance at the 74th B.N. Mullick All India Police Football Championship 2025–26 held in Hyderabad, bringing laurels to the state upon their return.

The teams were felicitated at the State Police Headquarters during a special ceremony, where Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania congratulated the players for their outstanding achievements and lauded their sporting excellence.

The championship, held in Hyderabad from March 23 to April 5, saw the Odisha Police Women’s Football Team secure the runners-up position after a closely fought final against Assam Rifles, who emerged as champions. The Odisha Police Men’s Football Team also performed commendably, finishing fourth in the tournament.

Highlighting individual brilliance, two Odisha Police players clinched the Golden Boot awards as the highest scorers in their respective categories. Pyari Khakha scored seven goals in the women’s category to emerge as the top scorer and is currently representing India at the national football camp. Bijay Behera led the men’s tally with eight goals, earning the Golden Boot in the men’s category.

Addressing the players, DGP Khurania expressed confidence that their achievements would inspire aspiring footballers across Odisha and further strengthen the state’s sporting culture. He noted that the success has brought pride to the Odisha Police force.

Senior officers, including Additional Director General of Police Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi and Additional Director General of Police Sanjay Kumar, were present at the felicitation ceremony and encouraged the players. Odisha Police Sports Officer Nilamadhab Swain coordinated the programme.
