Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched the ‘Atal Bus Stand’ (ABS) scheme, a transformative initiative aimed at developing and modernizing public transport infrastructure across the state.
The scheme will establish state-of-the-art bus stands at district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters, block headquarters, urban local bodies, and tourist locations, categorized into A, B, and C classes based on public requirement and transportation needs.
The ABS scheme will integrate all existing bus stands under one umbrella, ensuring uniformity in development, operation, and management. The bus stands will be officially designated as Public Transport Infrastructure, catering to both government and private bus operators, and providing integrated public services.
The scheme aims to enhance social unity, drive economic growth, and promote inclusive development while ensuring environmental sustainability. The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) will implement the scheme, with a total budget of Rs 3,400 crores approved till FY 2031-32.
Key objectives include improving operational efficiency, boosting revenue, and consolidating infrastructure and services. The scheme is expected to provide a significant boost to the state’s public transport system, benefiting commuters and promoting tourism and economic development.
