Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to distribute free school uniforms to all students studying in government and government-aided schools across the state by April 27, well before the summer vacation begins.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityanand Gond informed that a Standard Operating Procedure has already been issued for the smooth distribution of uniforms. The minister said that uniforms will be provided to every student before the start of the summer vacation.
The minister further stated that class-wise requirements will be finalized by April 10 and agencies will be selected by April 12, after which work orders will be issued immediately. He clarified that any agency which has received work orders in the past but has complaints or allegations against it will be removed from the process. Only those agencies with a clean record will be given the responsibility of stitching and distributing the uniforms.
Meanwhile, when asked about the summer vacation schedule, Minister Gond said that no decision has been taken yet. He added that the government will take a call at the appropriate time after reviewing the latest weather conditions and heatwave forecast.
The department has been directed to ensure strict monitoring and quality control so that students receive their uniforms on time and can begin the new academic session without any inconvenience.
