Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident of fratricidal violence, a man allegedly chased and attacked his younger brother with a chopper at Saliasahi area late on Friday night, leaving the victim in a critical condition.
The accused, identified as Chittaranjan Samantaray, attacked his younger brother Deepu Samantray with a sharp weapon. Deepu sustained multiple deep injuries on eight different parts of his body and was found in a pool of blood. Both the brothers hail from Saliasahi.
According to reports, the injured younger brother somehow managed to reach Nayapalli Police Station in a serious condition and sought help. Nayapalli police immediately rushed him to Capital Hospital. He sustained deep injuries in eight different parts of his body and is undergoing treatment at the Capital Hospital. His condition is stated to be critical. The elder brother, Chittaranjan, was also reportedly injured during the incident.
Upon being informed, Maitri Vihar police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The exact reason behind the brutal attack is yet to be ascertained.
Police suspect it could be the result of a family dispute or personal enmity, but no concrete motive has been established so far. The Commissionerate Police have begun a detailed probe into the circumstances that led one brother to launch such a violent assault on the other.
