Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, has announced major traffic restrictions and diversions on Sachivalaya Marg and its surrounding areas on April 12 and 13, 2026, in view of the 78th Capital Foundation Day celebrations and its rehearsal parade.
According to an official public notice issued by the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate, heavy restrictions will be enforced on Sachivalaya Marg stretching from Rabindra Mandap to Jaydev Bhawan. On April 12, the restrictions will remain in force from 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM for the rehearsal. On April 13, traffic curbs will begin from 6:00 AM and continue till the completion of the parade and the main function.
Vehicles coming from Housing Board Square towards Rabindra Mandap will be diverted at Keshari Talkies Square. All vehicular movement from AG Square towards PMG Square has been prohibited, and such vehicles will be diverted at AG Square towards Raj Mahal Square.
Vehicles approaching from the Master Canteen side towards PMG Square will be diverted onto adjoining lanes before reaching PMG Square. No vehicles will be permitted to proceed towards PMG Square or 120 Battalion Square from the Unit-IV Market lane.
Similarly, vehicles coming from 120 Infantry Battalion Square will not be allowed to move towards Rabindra Mandap and will instead be diverted towards Power House Square. Vehicles coming from Lok Bhavan Square towards MLA Colony and Rabindra Mandap will be diverted at 120 Battalion Square towards Sastrinagar Square. These traffic arrangements have been put in place under Section 28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, and in pursuance of Regulation 36 of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic & Public Order) Regulations, 2008.
The Commissionerate Police has clarified that the restrictions will not apply to vehicles authorized to enter official buildings including the State Assembly, the State Secretariat, and other government offices located in the area. Emergency vehicles such as police, fire, and ambulances will also be exempted from these curbs.
Violation of these orders will be treated as an offence and will be punishable under Section 96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003.
The police have requested the general public to plan their routes accordingly and cooperate during these two days to ensure the smooth conduct of the Capital Foundation Day celebrations.
Motorists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the restricted zone and use alternative routes to minimize inconvenience.
