Yellow Warning Issued For Thunderstorms And Heatwave Conditions Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several parts of Odisha over the next seven days, with a mix of thunderstorm activity and increasing hot and humid conditions.

Day-wise Forecast: April 12

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts during the afternoon or evening hours.

Hot and humid conditions are also expected in isolated pockets over coastal districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Day 2 (April 12 – 13)

Hot and humid conditions will continue to prevail in isolated pockets over the same coastal districts.

Day 3 (April 13 – 14):

Hot and humid conditions are likely in isolated pockets across the coastal belt. In addition, heat wave conditions are very likely at one or two places over Bargarh district.

Day 4 (April 14 – 15)

Hot and humid conditions will persist in coastal areas, while heat wave is expected at one or two places over Balangir and Bargarh districts.

Day 5 (April 15 – 16)

Hot and humid weather will continue along the coast. Heat wave conditions are likely at one or two places in Sambalpur, Balangir, and Bargarh districts.

Day 6 & Day 7 (April 16 – 18)

Hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail in isolated pockets over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

The IMD has advised people to remain cautious, especially during the afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorms are likely. Residents in western and northern districts are urged to take necessary precautions against the rising heat and humidity in the coming days.

People are advised to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take extra care of vulnerable sections such as children, elderly persons, and outdoor workers.

Further updates will be issued based on the evolving weather situation.
