Bhubaneswar: : In a shocking and tragic incident, a woman allegedly murdered her son and daughter with an axe before attempting to end her own life in Tangarpali village under the Airport police station limits of Jharsuguda district late on Saturday night.
According to police sources, the family had gone to bed after dinner. Around midnight, Ranjita Oram woke up her husband and asked him to go outside. As soon as the husband stepped out to urinate, Ranjita locked the door from inside. She then brutally attacked her two children — daughter Jijnyasha Oram and son Vibhanshu Oram — with an axe.
After killing the children, she slit her own throat with a knife in an attempt to commit suicide.The husband, suspecting something wrong, broke open a window with the help of a neighbour and entered the house. He found the two children dead and his wife critically injured. Ranjita was immediately rushed to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, in critical condition.
The reason behind this horrific act is yet to be ascertained. Airport police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. A scientific team may be called in if required.
