Puri: A heart-breaking incident occurred during a Ramlila performance in Bhavanipur village under Krushnaprasad block of Puri district, where a 14-year-old boy lost his life after receiving a severe electric shock from a nearby transformer.
The Ramlila was being staged at night and had drawn hundreds of spectators from surrounding villages. Shortly after the drama began, as the character of Hanuman made his dramatic entry, the boy — son of Kandur Pradhan from Parla village — got frightened and ran away in panic.
In his fear, he rushed towards a nearby electrical transformer and came into direct contact with it, suffering a fatal electric shock. People present at the spot immediately rushed the boy to the Chilika Nuapada Community Health Centre. However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
The sudden and tragic death has cast a pall of gloom over the village and surrounding areas. Krushnaprasad police have reached the spot, recovered the body, and initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. The exact identity of the boy has been reported variably in local accounts, but he was a Class 8 student.
