Ganjam: In a tragic road accident, two persons were killed and three others seriously injured when two motorcycles collided head-on while returning home after watching Danda Nacha (traditional stick dance) performance.
The accident occurred near Podakhari under Sorada police station limits in Ganjam district on Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Gurudeb Pradhan of Govindapur village and Balia Mallick of Chanchrapalli village
According to reports, the victims were returning after watching the Danda Nacha when the two bikes coming from opposite directions crashed into each other with tremendous force.
Upon receiving information, the Sorada Fire Service team rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons. They were immediately shifted to the local hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.
The other three injured persons were referred to MKCG Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Sorada police reached the spot, recovered the bodies, and have initiated further investigation into the incident. The exact cause of the collision is yet to be ascertained, though police suspect high speed and possible negligence as contributing factors.
