Bhubaneswar: In a tragic road accident, one person was killed and 14 others, including small children, were seriously injured when a traveller carrying a wedding party overturned on National Highway-16 near Matiapada Square under Simulia police station in Balasore district in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The incident occurred when the group was returning from a wedding ceremony in Kolkata to Duduma area in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, the driver dozed off at the wheel, causing the speeding bus to lose control. The vehicle veered off the road, overturned, and crashed into a roadside tree. The deceased has been identified as Shoib Ansari. The 14 injured persons, many of them children, were rushed to Simulia hospital and later shifted to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.
The victims were part of a marriage party that had travelled from the Duduma area of Bhubaneswar to attend a wedding in Kolkata.
Upon being informed, Simulia police reached the spot immediately and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
