Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the tragic death of two girl students after a school gate collapsed on them in Nuagaon block of Gajapati district.
The incident occurred at Rubidisingh Government Primary School, where the two students reportedly sustained fatal injuries when the gate fell on them, triggering shock and mourning in the local community.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the Chief Minister termed the incident as deeply unfortunate and ordered a detailed inquiry into the circumstances leading to the mishap. He directed that a probe be conducted at the level of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), with the Revenue Divisional Commissioner of the Southern Division entrusted to carry out a thorough investigation.
Announcing financial assistance, Majhi said that an ex-gratia of ₹3 lakh each would be provided to the next of kin of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).
The incident has raised concerns over safety standards in school infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, with the inquiry expected to ascertain accountability and recommend preventive measures.
