Puri: Public darshan was temporarily suspended for some time at the Jagannath temple in Puri on Friday morning after some servitors noticed blood drops near the Bhitara Katha (inner chamber) area.
The incident occurred shortly after the Mangala Alati in the early hours of Friday. The servitors immediately informed the temple administration and senior priests. It was then decided to perform the grand ritual of Bada Mahasnana (great purification bath) of sibling deities to restore the sanctity of the sanctum sanctorum. As a result, general public darshan inside the Shree Jagannath Temple was halted for a brief period.
During the Bada Mahasnana, entry was strictly restricted to only a few authorized servitors, as this is considered a secret and confidential ritual known as Gupta Niti.
After the completion of the Mahasnana, normal darshan arrangements resumed in the temple. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration confirmed that all rituals were carried out strictly according to the age-old traditions of Srimandir.
This special purification bath is performed whenever any form of impurity such as vomiting, blood stains, animal death, or human death inside the temple. Darshan resumed after the ceremony.
