Cuttack: Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania has said today Odisha a Maoist-free state.
Addressing the media, DGP Khurania said that sustained anti-Maoist operations and a series of surrenders by extremists have successfully eliminated Left Wing Extremism activities from Odisha.
“We have not yet withdrawn the police camps in the Maoist-dominated areas. We can now say that Odisha is Maoist-free,” the DGP stated clearly.
He added that although Odisha has achieved this milestone, the state remains on high alert. Activities in the bordering states are being closely monitored to prevent any spillover or infiltration attempts.
The declaration comes after years of intensive efforts by Odisha Police, Special Operations Group, District Volunteer Force, CRPF and other central forces in the affected districts. Police camps in previously sensitive areas continue to remain operational for now to ensure complete stability.
