Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday evening issued a yellow nowcast warning for thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and light rain in several parts of Odisha over the next three hours.
According to the warning issued at 7 pm, one or two places in the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack and Bhadrak are likely to experience thunderstorm and lightning with gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph, along with light rainfall.
The weather office advised people in the affected districts to remain alert and closely monitor changing weather conditions. Residents have been urged to move to safer places in case of worsening weather and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from possible lightning strikes.
The IMD categorised the advisory as a yellow warning, indicating the need for people to be aware and stay cautious during the forecast period.
