School Holidays Extended In Dhenkanal And Subarnapur Amid Severe Heatwave

Bhubaneswar: In response to the ongoing severe heat-wave conditions and a Red Warning issued by the India Meteorological Department, the district administrations of Dhenkanal and Subarnapur have announced further extensions of school holidays to protect students, staff, and children from extreme heat exposure.

The Subarnapur District Collector has ordered the extension of holidays for all educational institutions till April 25. This order comes in continuation of the previous directive. All Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), schools, colleges, technical institutions, and other educational institutions in the district will remain closed until April 25.

However, examinations scheduled during this period will continue as per the existing timetable. The district administration has directed that exams be conducted in the morning hours to avoid peak heat. Heads of institutions have been instructed to ensure adequate supply of safe drinking water and implement necessary heatwave precautionary measures for students and staff.

In Dhenkanal district, the Collector has issued a notification extending the closure of schools until further orders. All types of government, government-aided, and private schools — from Sishu Vatika to Class XII — will remain closed from April 23 onwards.

Essential activities such as admissions, census duty, supplementary examinations for Class V and Class VIII, and other administrative functions will continue as usual. Teaching and non-teaching staff have been asked to attend schools as per existing instructions.

These decisions have been taken keeping in view the prevailing heatwave conditions, with temperatures predicted to cross 40°C in the coming days, and to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Several districts in Odisha have already announced school closures due to the intense summer heat, and more extensions or fresh orders may follow depending on weather updates from the IMD.
