Bhubaneswar: New allegations of ragging have emerged at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla, Sambalpur district leading to strict disciplinary action against four students.
As per reports, the incident reportedly occurred a few days ago near the main gate of the campus. The four senior students allegedly targeted a first-year mechanical engineering student, mocking him over his clothes and footwear. While the incident was underway, another student tried to record the event on his mobile phone. The accused seniors reportedly objected strongly to the recording and damaged the phone in the process.
After the junior lodged a formal complaint, the university’s anti-ragging cell immediately initiated an inquiry into the matter. A fact-finding committee set up by the university investigated the incident and found all four accused students guilty. Following a detailed inquiry, penalties were imposed on the guilty students. One student was fined Rs 10,000, while the other three were each penalised with a fine of Rs 5,000.
The university administration has taken prompt action to address the issue and has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards ragging on campus.
