Bhubaneswar: Large parts of Odisha continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions on Monday, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest place in the state at a scorching 44.7°C, according to the Evening Weather Bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Several other districts also recorded extreme temperatures above 40°C. Angul and Sambalpur each registered 43.2°C, while Sundargarh and Rourkela recorded 43.0°C. Boudh (43.5°C) and Balangir (43.3°C) also remained under severe heat stress, highlighting the intensity across western and interior Odisha.

The capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5°C, while Cuttack registered 36.8°C. Coastal districts such as Balasore (38.3°C) and Chandbali (37.8°C) experienced relatively lower temperatures, though humidity levels remained high.

Minimum temperatures across the state ranged between 23°C and 30°C, offering little nighttime relief. Titlagarh recorded one of the highest minimum temperatures at 30.0°C.

Humidity levels were elevated across several districts, particularly in coastal and southern regions, adding to discomfort. Rainfall activity remained largely negligible, with most districts reporting no precipitation in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM IST. Only trace rainfall was recorded in Nayagarh, while Rourkela received 5.4 mm between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.

The IMD has indicated that heatwave conditions are likely to persist, especially over western and interior parts of the state, and has advised people to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
