Superbike Theft Racket Busted

Bhubaneswar: Police have busted a superbike theft racket operating in the city and arrested three persons while detaining two juveniles under Chandrasekharpur Police Station limits, officials said on Monday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Prakash Pradhan, Subhrajit Digal, and Abhishek Digal.

According to police, the group was involved in stealing high-end motorcycles from parking areas of malls and other public places in Bhubaneswar. The stolen superbikes were allegedly transported to Kandhamal and Phulbani regions, where they were sold.

Investigators suspect that the accused may also have links to a ganja smuggling network, though the connection is yet to be conclusively established.

ACP Manas Ranjan Pradhan of Bhubaneswar Sub-Division VI said that acting on a tip-off, Chandrasekharpur police launched a raid after receiving information that two stolen superbikes were being taken to Raikia area in Kandhamal district for disposal.

“A police team was immediately dispatched, and both motorcycles were intercepted during the operation. The accused were caught while attempting to sell the stolen bikes,” ACP Pradhan said.

During the operation, police recovered the two stolen superbikes from the spot. Three adult accused were arrested on the spot, while two juveniles involved in the case were detained.

All five accused were produced before a court on Monday, police said. Further investigation is underway to identify other possible links and associates involved in the racket.
