New Delhi: Post their landslide win, the newly-elected Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi and Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, on Wednesday promised to work towards cleanliness in the national Capital.

The winners, both of whom are BJP councillors, thanked the party leadership for providing them with the opportunity.

Deputy Mayor Monika Pant said: “First of all, I would like to thank the top leadership, the BJP state organisation, our state president, the Chief Minister, and also MP Harsh Malhotra, along with all my senior leaders who showed faith in me and considered an ordinary party worker like me worthy of this responsibility.”

On the goals of the municipal corporation, she said: “Cleanliness is a big issue. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, this work has been going on everywhere in Delhi for the past one year. We will continue to work on this.”

She further said: We will also work to ensure that the people of Delhi receive all the facilities provided by the MCD.”

“Now, all of us will work together in unity to take forward the work of the Municipal Corporation,” she told IANS

Mayor Pravesh Wahi also expressed his gratitude to the BJP leadership.

He said: “I will work according to the principles of the organisation.”

“We will work towards fulfilling the promises of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to make the city clean and green, by working in coordination with the Delhi government,” he told IANS.

Wahi promised to work towards removing garbage mounds from the city at the earliest.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva congratulated the Mayor and Deputy Mayor on their victories.

He said that the responsibility of the office-bearers has increased now.

“We were witness to that period during former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure when the MCD didn’t receive financial help. Workers used to protest on streets,” Sachdeva said.

However, he asserted that for the last one year, after the BJP government came into power, the party has worked to improve the situation.

Meanwhile, the AAP had chosen to stay away from the contest.
