Pakistan Eyes Big Kashmir Strike To Trigger Global Intervention

New Delhi: There is desperation drawn all over and Pakistan is attempting another audacious attack on Indian soil. It would once again look to target Jammu and Kashmir and then bring the United States (US) into the picture.

Pakistan is planning a massive attack and would hope that India would retaliate like the way it did during ‘Operation Sindoor’.

Considering the new-found ties with the US under President Donald Trump, Pakistan would hope for an external intervention.

An official said that the intervention that Pakistan would be seeking would not just be restricted to the retaliation for the terror strike. This is a long planned goal of Pakistan to internationalise the Kashmir issue, the official said.

India has always maintained that Kashmir is an internal issue. Even after the abrogation of Article 370, Pakistan had tried to raise the issue internationally. However, India made it clear that it remains an internal matter and the abrogation of the Article that gave Jammu and Kashmir special status was only meant to integrate it with the rest of India.

For Field Marshal Asim Munir, there is a lot at stake. He tried to push for a peace deal between the US and Iran. However, with that not going exactly as planned, he is bound to shift his focus back to India.

There is a lot at stake for Field Marshal Munir and his reputation. The domestic pressure is growing and he has to attempt something big in India so that his image correction can take place, the official added.

Another official went on to add that Field Marshal Munir is also making out a case for him to become the President of Pakistan. Although he can take that post by bullying any government in Pakistan, he would still want to make it seem as though he has earned it.

What better than the Kashmir issue and internationalising it to make out a case for him to become the next President of Pakistan, the official pointed out.

For now, the focus of Pakistan remains on rebuilding its terror network in Jammu and Kashmir. It has been pushing for more home-grown modules. This becomes important for Pakistan as these modules would continue to carry out attacks in the Valley.

An Intelligence Bureau official said that it is a two-pronged strategy that Munir has planned. On one hand Pakistan wants home-grown modules to undertake strikes. This causes losses to the tourism industry. It also diverts the attention of the security forces, which are currently focussed entirely on the border.

If the diversion does happen, then Pakistan would look to send in its terrorists who are waiting in large numbers in launch pads across the border.

Given the current situation, Pakistan would want attacks to continue in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the larger goal would be to carry out a big attack in Kashmir using Pakistani terrorists with the hope that the Indian armed forces would retaliate.

This is a big game that Munir is playing. He is ready to allow terror infrastructure in Pakistan to be hit again. His larger aim is to get the international community to intervene and then internationalise the Kashmir issue.

Pakistan watchers point out that the Iran negotiations were of extreme importance for Munir. More than wanting to stop the war, he wanted to project to the people of Pakistan that he is putting their country on the international stage.

As of now, it has not gone the way Pakistan would have hoped. This explains why Munir wants to strike big in Kashmir and then get countries such as the US to intervene, the experts also pointed out.
