Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Tuesday reviewed the preparedness of the Energy Department and directed DISCOMs to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply across Odisha during the upcoming summer and Kalbaisakhi (nor’wester) season.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, Singh Deo assessed the state’s readiness to meet peak summer demand and manage disruptions caused by Kalbaisakhi. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Vishal Kumar Dev, CMD of OPTCL Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, and the CEOs of all DISCOMs in the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed DISCOMs to ensure round-the-clock quality power supply and instructed that all consumer complaints be treated as a priority and resolved within stipulated timelines. He emphasised the need to strengthen response systems and called for the deployment of additional dedicated teams to ensure faster grievance redressal.
Stressing system reliability, Singh Deo directed DISCOMs to use only quality materials and accessories in maintenance and restoration works to avoid recurring faults. He also emphasised consumer-centric service delivery and instructed officials at all levels to maintain polite and proactive behaviour while dealing with consumers.
The review meeting also focused on electrical safety measures. Singh Deo issued strict directions regarding the installation of hoardings and billboards near power lines and installations. He asked DISCOMs, in coordination with urban local bodies, to ensure strict compliance with structural safety norms to prevent accidents during high winds and storm conditions.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to providing 24×7 reliable power supply, the Deputy Chief Minister directed all officials to remain on high alert during the summer months. He also instructed the Energy Department and DISCOMs to submit weekly compliance reports on the action points discussed during the meeting.
