Bhubaneswar: The toll rose to three after a minor girl who sustained severe injuries in fire at Basant Villa Apartment in Laxmisagar succumbed while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Her family members confirmed the death.
Earlier in the day, a devastating fire broke out in the wee hours of Wednesday at Basant Villa Apartment in the Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar, resulting in the death of a caretaker and a security guard. The deceased were identified as Biswajit Behera, a security guard, and Sulabha Behera, a caretaker. Both reportedly died due to suffocation and burn injuries. The minor girl also sustained serious injuries in the blaze and was rushed to hospital, where she later died, taking the death toll to three.
According to preliminary information, the fire originated from a short circuit in the electrical panel board in the guard room. The incident occurred around 4 am when most residents were asleep.
