Bhadrak: In a shocking incident, a NEET aspirant from Bhadrak district died by suicide after reportedly fearing that he would perform poorly in the second attempt of the medical entrance exam.
The deceased has been identified as Jyotiprakash Barik, a resident of Nandore village under Tihidi police station.
According to family members, Jyotiprakash had scored only 330 marks in his first NEET attempt. He was preparing for the second attempt and was staying in a rented house behind the Treasury Office in Bhadrak town along with his parents.
Family sources said the young student was extremely anxious about his future. He often expressed doubts that he would not be able to achieve anything in life. On May 3, he appeared for the NEET examinations for the second time. After returning home, he reportedly self-evaluated his answers and became convinced that his performance was once again poor. On the fateful day, when his mother went to her husband’s shop for work, Jyotiprakash took the extreme step inside the rented house by hanging himself. He was rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The family is inconsolable and has been left shattered by the incident. Police are investigating the matter.
