Jeypore: In a major drive against noise pollution and reckless driving, Jeypore Town Police have seized 85 Bullet motorcycles and destroyed their silencers that were creating excessive noise.
As per reports, the operation was conducted under the direction of Koraput Superintendent of Police Rohit Varma. A three-day intensive drive was led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Arjita Mittal along with Jeypore Town Police. During the raids at various locations in the town, 85 Bullet bikes were impounded. After the vehicles were brought to Jeypore Town Police Station, owners who had fitted illegal high-decibel silencers were fined. Besides, police subsequently crushed the modified silencers using a road roller at the police station.
According to police, many youths were indulging in drunk driving and creating disturbance by modifying their Bullet bikes to produce loud exhaust sounds. Such activities were causing frequent accidents and severe noise pollution, especially near schools, colleges, hospitals, and residential areas. SDPO Mittal said the drive was launched after receiving several complaints from senior citizens, women, students, and parents who were being harassed due to the deafening noise.
Town Police Station Officer Uttas Chandra Raut was also present during the operation.
The police administration has warned that strict action — including heavy fines, vehicle seizure, and cancellation of driving licenses — will continue against those creating noise pollution and violating traffic rules.
