Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav on Friday urged that live footage of the counting centre should be shared by the Election Commission during the 2027 Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

Her reaction comes in the aftermath of Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee’s allegations of miscalculations in vote counting in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls.

The SP MP said: “That is why Samajwadi Party has demanded that when elections will be held in Uttar Pradesh, live footage from the counting centre should be shared.”

“Going ‘live’ is no longer a new thing in terms of technology. The BJP calls itself technologically advanced,” she added.

About SP President Akhilesh Yadav meeting former West Bengal Chief Minister Banerjee, Dimple Yadav said: “Samajwadi Party has always maintained good relations with the Trinamool Congress.”

Reiterating the Opposition’s allegation against the Election Commission of being “biased”, she added: “We don’t any hope left from the Election Commission. It is working completely in favour of the BJP because they have got protection from the party.”

Citing the CRPF deployment during West Bengal Assembly polls, Dimple Yadav said: “We have seen that in Uttar Pradesh as well, there is a fear of security forces during elections and an atmosphere of fear is created. Party workers are threatened. Booth agents are not allowed to reach their respective booths.”

She alleged that what the BJP has done in West Bengal “is similar” to what the party did in Uttar Pradesh to come to power.

About Samajwadi Party’s plans for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls, Dimple Yadav said: “We have said that we will work with PDAs (Backward, Dalit, Minority).”

She alleged that the condition of women in Uttar Pradesh are poor.

“We are constantly hearing about sexual assaults happening in several places, whether it is Ghazipur, Gonda or Pratapgarh,” she said.

Dimple Yadav accused the Uttar Pradesh Police and the state government’s representatives of not taking any action in such cases.

Referring to Ankita Bhandari’s murder case in Uttar Pradesh, she said: “According to me, women are not safe in all those states wherever BJP is in power.”

The SP leader also accused the BJP of being responsible for violence in West Bengal and Manipur.
