Bhubaneswar: As many as two persons were killed as 35 others were injured in three separate road mishaps in Ganjam, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts.
In the first incident, a head-on collision took place today morning around 6 am between a private passenger bus (Durga Madhab) and a truck near Bali Dhaba on the Kodala-Khalikote Road in Ganjam district. The bus was on its way to Puri from Polasara when the accident occurred. The truck driver died on the spot, while 15 passengers of the bus sustained injuries, more than two of them in serious condition.
In the second road mishap on National Highway18, a Bolero car carrying wedding party overturned after colliding with a container near Nandasol Chhak under Betanati police station limits in Mayurbhanj district. The accident occurred in the middle of the night when the Bolero, returning from a wedding in the Chitrada area, took a wrong turn into a diversion on the highway. According to the injured passengers, the driver became distracted while turning and was hit by a speeding container, causing the vehicle to overturn. Thirteen persons sustained injuries in the incident.
All the injured were shifted to PRM Hospital in Baripada for treatment. Currently, eight of them are undergoing treatment.
In the third incident, which occurred late last night near the Ghoghar Bundel jungle under Talsara police station limits in Sundargarh district, a bike lost balance and met with an accident.
One youth, Shlok Barla (22), died in the mishap, while two others — Abinash Barla (20) and Akash Barla (19) — were seriously injured. All three hailed from Balishankara Bhatipada village. They were riding a bike without a registration number plate on their way to attend a wedding feast at Ghoghar. The injured were first rushed to Subdega Community Health Centre and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
