Bhubaneswar: More than 80 persons reportedly fell ill after consuming food at a wedding feast in Bartia village under Rengali Panchayat in Khaprakhol block of Balangir district.
According to reports, the villagers had attended a wedding feast two days ago. On Thursday, around 40 people fell ill and were treated at the Khaprakhol Community Health Centre (CHC). Some of them were discharged after initial treatment. However, on Friday, the number of patients increased significantly.
Upon being informed, a medical team visited the village and treated more than 40 additional patients. The medical team included Dr Rashmita Behera, Dr Geetanjali Patra, Pharmacist Nirakara Barik apart from ANM and Anganwadi workers. Meanwhile, one serious patient has been referred to Patnagarh for further treatment.
Dr Suraj Deep, in-charge of Khaprakhol Community Health Centre, confirmed that villagers fell ill after consuming food at the wedding feast. He said the situation is now under control after the medical team provided door-to-door treatment throughout the day.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the food poisoning.
