Kendrapara: A domestic dispute allegedly took a violent turn in Kendrapara district after a man was brutally assaulted by members of his in-laws’ family and their associates in Kharinasi village under Jambu Marine police limits of Mahakalapada block.
The victim, identified as Manoranjan Giri of Kharinasi village, sustained critical injuries in the alleged attack and has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Kendrapara for treatment. Visuals of the incident have reportedly gone viral on social media.
According to preliminary reports, a dispute had erupted between Manoranjan and his wife, during which he allegedly assaulted her. After learning about the incident, members of his wife’s family from nearby Jambu village allegedly arrived at Manoranjan’s house along with a large group of supporters.
Manoranjan alleged that more than 20 people, arriving on around 15 motorcycles, attacked him inside his village. He further claimed that the attackers tied his wrists and ankles with ropes before assaulting him.
On receiving information about the incident, police from Jambu Marine police station reached the spot, rescued the injured man, and shifted him to the Mahakalapada Community Health Centre for immediate treatment. He was later referred to the Kendrapara district headquarters hospital after his condition reportedly deteriorated.
Police said complaints have been lodged by both sides at the Jambu Marine police station. A case has been registered and an investigation into the incident is underway.
