Bhubaneswar: In an inspiring act of humanity amid unbearable grief, a mother donated the eyes of her daughter who lost her life in a tragic road accident in Bhubaneswar, enabling others to see the world through her vision.
Barsarani Behera (27), daughter of Jajpur district’s former Bari Block Samiti chairperson Bharati Behera, died in a horrific accident on the Baramunda flyover here on the evening of May 9. Two other bike riders also lost their lives in the mishap, leaving the city shocked by the tragic incident.
Barsarani, who worked for a private company, was returning home on a scooter when the accident occurred. Soon after receiving the heartbreaking news, her mother Bharati Behera rushed to the hospital.
Despite the immense personal loss, Bharati took a courageous and compassionate decision to donate her daughter’s eyes to the Drushti Daan Eye Bank.
Family members said Bharati wished that even though her daughter was no more, her eyes could continue to spread light in someone else’s life. Through the eye donation, Barsarani’s memory would live on forever, she expressed.
The noble gesture has drawn widespread appreciation from people across the state. Many have hailed Bharati Behera’s decision as a remarkable example of compassion and social responsibility during a moment of profound sorrow.
Bharati has earned admiration for her magnanimity and humanitarian spirit.
